We have spent a lot of cash this year, but £40k was included in the accounts last year...as it included the Astro money, said Elizabeth Prentice, chairman of the Spending Committee. We are in a very fortunate position to really make up the extras that do not come under the regular school budget and make such a differece to life at the school on a day to day basis.
To give you some idea of where your money goes, this year we have so far spent £15,000 of expenditure on 22 items which include:
Student counselling £2,450 Andrea Abbott competition winners £300 Music lockers £831 Queens Hall cabling and lighting £3,203 Sports colours £370 Payment for an artist in residence during arts week £216 Kit car for the racing team £1,450 Sofa School Lodge £303 Cornwallis printer and toner £375 Oscillascope £495 Payment towards the drama workshop £525

The British Education Communications and Technology Agency (BECTA) has released guidelines on child fingerprinting in schools. The government's focus has been solely on data protection issues whist disregarding whether it is morally acceptable for a society to allow widespread fingerprinting of children.
The guidelines state: "There is nothing explicit in the Data Protection Act to require schools to seek the consent of parents before implementing a biometric technology system." The guidelines do suggest though that: "Whilst consent is not required for all processing of personal data, schools should normally involve pupils and parents in their decisions to use biometric technologies as is the case with other decisions made during the school life of children." |
